Friendship Forever

It's funny how some friends you can not see for months or even years and when you see them it's like no time has past at all.

Michelle and I met at Southeastern Vocational High School in1987. We were both freshman. I was from East Bridgewater and she was from Norton. So there we were on first day in Commercial foods. Her last name was Bramwell mine Baker so naturally we were seated next to each other. I introduce myself and we actually shook hands. What nerds we were. To this day we laugh about this. Who knew that would be the beginning of a 30 year friendship.

Jr proms, the birth of my son, Sr prom, graduation and my wedding. Michelle was there for it all. Shortly after I got married we lost touch for a few years. During this time she had gotten married and had two daughters. In the spring of 1994 shortly after my 2nd child a daughter was born, I am not sure who called who but somehow we got in touch with each other. It was like no time had past at all. We totally picked up where we left off.

Over the next then 12 years we shared birthdays, holidays and many parties.

I had my third child in 2006 which was a total surprise to everyone. Two years later my marriage totally fell apart. It was rocky for quite a while and I shouldn't of been surprised when my now ex husband asked for a separation. Nevertheless I was totally devastated. Who was my shoulder. You got it Michelle. I don't know what I would've done without her the first few months. I was a broken women. I cried daily on the phone for weeks. She was strong when I was weak. I don't know if she realizes how grateful I was to have her during this rough time. Slowly I regained my strength and sanity. Shorty after I met the man I am now engaged to.

Now two of my children are grown and out on their own. My ten year old is still with me. Michelle's oldest daughter is in her second year of college and her youngest is a senior in high school.

We talked to each other every few month and plan a night out too caught up. Last night was one of those nights. We met at Greggs in Providence, and I actually didn't get lost. Which if you know me would know that I am directionally challenged.

Anyways we had a wonderful time. Of course we both had to have this dessert! Yummy (thank god I had my Fat Fighters)

During one part of our conversation I brought up the fact that we have been friends for 30 years and she said that our friendship was like the scene from the movie Beaches. When Hillary convinces CC to take her to the beach house, knowing that the end is near. While playing a game of cards, CC casually mentions, “I know everything there is to know about you and my memory is long, very, very long.” CC bounces away into the house, and a fragile Hillary quietly responds, “I’m counting on it.”

Yes a little sappy but true. I am grateful to have Michelle as my friend. We don't get to spend as much time together as I would like to. You know how it is. Life happens. But every time we get together it like no time has past. I look forward to our next 30 years. I love you little buddy!!

Stay Healthy,

Sheila
